State College Police are reminding the public to beware of money scams.
In a recent incident, a male claiming to be from the FBI called an elderly female to confirm a two million dollar prize she supposedly won was legitimate. The male caller wanted the woman to meet him at Rite Aid on Westerly Parkway with $2,500 in Wal-Mart gift cards as a “fee” for the two million dollar prize.
Beware of scams and be suspicious of unusual contacts. The FBI does not call or email people to award prizes.
If you suspect you are the victim of a scam or if you have information concerning the perpetration of a scam, please contact State College Police at 814-234-7150 or submit an anonymous tip through the web.
