The State College Police Department offers a highly rewarding and professional internship program, which provides participants the opportunity to work “hands-on” in various areas of the police department. Internships are unpaid and offered primarily to students enrolled at post-secondary institutions (must be 18 years of age or older). Student interns are typically in their junior or senior year of study and receive credit for successful completion of the internship from the institution of higher learning.

The State College Public Works Department regularly accepts applications to assist the Department's Engineering Division during the spring and fall semesters as well as over the summer. During the spring and fall, interns work approximately 10 hours per week. During the summer participants have the opportunity to work 40 hours per week.
Interns assist the Borough Engineer and others in the Department by collecting data along with other various engineering-type tasks. Work for the summer typically consists of gathering data, surveying and construction stake-out, completing construction calculations, performing independent studies, assisting with construction inspections, and performing minor drafting.
The Borough’s Public Works Department is a progressive and positive work environment and will offer the right person a great work experience. Projects typically include street reconstruction, streetlight extensions, storm water inspections, Americans with Disabilities Act intersection improvements, park land improvements, traffic signal design and installation, and storm and sanitary sewer design and rehabilitation.
Junior or senior year civil engineering students are preferred, but others are encouraged to apply. If interested, please submit your resume and cover letter to the Borough Engineer.

State College Borough partners with the Pennsylvania Mountain Service Corps (PMSC). When funding allows, the Borough has had the distinct pleasure of working with two AmeriCorps members from August/October through July of each year on issues related to the environment and community engagement.
PMSC is a local initiative of AmeriCorps. This National Service Movement engages thousands of Americans of all ages and backgrounds in a domestic Peace Corps. Members serve their communities in the areas of education, environment, public safety, and human needs and receive a living stipend, an educational award, and a wealth of experience.
Contact Courtney Hayden by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at (814) 234-7110 for more information on the Borough's involvement in AmeriCorps.
