Update to April 19, 2014 Fatal Bicycle Crash

The State College Police Department is continuing to investigate the fatal bicycle crash that occurred on Saturday, 4/19/2014 at approximately 1 p.m., which claimed the life of 85 year old State College resident Duane Olson. The investigation revealed that Mr. Olson did not suffer from a medical emergency prior to striking a chain link fence post and cinder block wall to the rear of the Firestone store on South Atherton Street.

The Police Department is seeking information from any witnesses who may have observed Mr. Olson riding his bicycle in the area of Rolling Ridge Drive prior to the accident. He was riding a bright blue Trek mountain bike, was wearing a white snap brim hat and carrying a cane.

Vehicle Crash Hospital Drive/Park Avenue

On April 22, 2014 at 10:16 a.m., the State College Police were dispatched to East Park Avenue and Hospital Drive for a report of a one vehicle crash. Officers arrived and found a Dodge Dakota had driven over an embankment approximately 43 feet before coming to rest against a tree. The driver of the vehicle, Bryant Musser (66) of Centre Hall was in cardiac arrest and witnesses had removed him from the truck and began CPR. Centre LifeLink arrived on scene and continued resuscitation efforts and transported him to Mount Nittany Medical Centre for further treatment. It appears the driver suffered a medical episode prior to the crash. No other vehicles were involved.

Sexual Assault Charges Filed

On April 21, 2014, The State College Police charged Stephen Lucas (38) of State College with felony charges of Rape (18 counts); Involuntary Deviate Sexual Intercourse with a Child (10 counts); Statutory Sexual Assault (9 counts); Sexual Assault (9 counts); Aggravated Indecent Assault (2 counts); Indecent Assault (40 counts); Corruption of Minors (1 count); Endangering the Welfare of Children (1 count) and Sexual Abuse of Children (1 count). Lucas was also charged with 40 counts of the misdemeanor offense of Indecent Exposure. Lucas was arraigned before District Justice Lachman and placed in Centre County Correctional Facility in lieu of $250,000 bail. The offenses occurred in the College Township home of the victim between 2009 and 2013. The victim was under the age of 13 years when the offenses occurred. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 7, 2014.
