STATE COLLEGE, PA (January 5, 2018)—A new Facebook page, Home in State College, is dedicated to sharing listings of homes for sale or rent in the Borough of State College. The site is tailored to professionals and others in the local workforce who may be interested in living in a Borough neighborhood.

Supported by the Borough of State College, Home in State College makes the case for quality of life in strong, vibrant Borough neighborhoods that are close to the Penn State campus,
downtown State College, schools, and community centers such as farmers markets, as well as shopping and other amenities in the greater State College area. Home in State College emphasizes the positive aspects of living in each of these neighborhoods.

Newly sworn Mayor Donald M. Hahn welcomed visitors to the page on his second day in office: “As a Centre County native, a Penn State graduate and Borough homeowner, I know that State College is a wonderful place to grow up, to go to school and to settle down,” he wrote. “As Mayor, I know that the Borough is committed to keeping it that way.

“One of the greatest benefits of the State College Borough is its location,” he writes. “Approximately 4.56 square miles large, with a world-class university and a vibrant downtown in the middle of it, the Borough is a pedestrian’s paradise. It has the highest percentage of people who walk and bike to work among Pennsylvania cities. Our bus system has the third highest mass transit ridership in the state.  Our regional growth boundary has helped to maintain low commuting times and to preserve the area’s physical beauty.”

Hahn grew up in State College as the son of Korean immigrants who came to the States to study and became naturalized American citizens, and his father became a Penn State professor. “I am proud not only of our community’s openness to all people but also of the diversity of those who contribute to it,” he writes.

“With 42,000 residents occupying 4.56 square miles, State College boasts walkable neighborhoods and a wide range of housing opportunities and choices,” he adds, saying he hopes Borough residents find “our town to be the same warm, happy and welcoming place as he has found it to be.”

Hahn encourages residents to like the Home in State College Facebook page, follow its useful posts, and share them with friends.

Former Mayor Elizabeth Goreham was the first to introduce Home in State College when it started up in November, noting, “There’s a community spirit in the Borough that will embrace you. We want as many as possible to know they can live in the Borough and live well.”

Home in State College is also featured on Twitter and Instagram.

Additional information about opportunities and resources available through the Home in State College site will be presented at the Downtown State College Farmers Market, from 11 am - 5 pm Friday, January 19, 2018.
