No Bulk or Brush Collection

There will be no bulk or brush collection the week of July 4, 2016. Refuse and recycling collection will occur as usual with no delay in service.

Parking for the 4th

Parking for the 4th of July Weekend

The “One-Hour & Two-Hour” restrictions and the “No Parking 2 a.m. to 6 a.m.” restrictions will not be enforced beginning at noon on Friday, July 1, 2016. Parking restrictions will resume at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2015.

Important Note: Parking on any streets in and around the parade route will not be permitted and vehicles will be ticketed and towed. Parking on the following streets and locations will not be permitted on July 4:

  • 100 and 200 West Nittany Avenue
  • 300 South Pugh Street
  • Allen Street Parking Lot
  • 100 East Foster
  • 100-300 South Allen Street
  • 200-300 South Fraser Street
  • 100-300 East College Avenue

Visitors are encouraged to use the downtown parking garages at Beaver Avenue, Fraser Street or Pugh Street which can be accessed 24 hours a day. The garages (Pugh, Beaver, and Fraser) will be free from 8 a.m. to midnight on the 4th of July. The free parking offer is limited to customers who enter and exit during the free parking period. Standard rates apply to all other customers.

Traffic for Parade

Parade Route & Traffic Information

The Central PA 4th Fest Parade will be held on July 4, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. The parade will form on the streets surrounding the State College Borough Municipal Building. The parade will travel the following route:

  • North on South Allen Street to East College Avenue
  • East on East College Avenue to Shortlidge Road
  • North on Shortlidge Road to Pollock Road
  • East Pollock Road to Bigler Road
  • North on Bigler Road to Curtin Road
  • East on Curtin Road and ending near the Bryce Jordan Center

The parade route will be closed to vehicle traffic from approximately 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Parking along the route will be restricted. Motorists may experience some traffic delays during the time of the parade. A detour route will be in effect.

Westbound thru traffic on East College Avenue will be detoured onto University Drive.

Fireworks Display Traffic 

On July 4, 2016, the fireworks display and activities will be held in the area surrounding Beaver Stadium. The fireworks display is scheduled to start at approximately 9:20 p.m.

For inbound traffic, Porter Road and Orchard Road will be closed at approximately 8 p.m. until the end of the fireworks. Motorists will not be permitted to park along the streets near the stadium, along the Mt. Nittany Expressway, Route 220 (I-99) or Orchard Road. Parking restrictions will be enforced and violators will be ticketed and/or towed.

At approximately 9:40 p.m. the following traffic pattern will be put into effect until the outbound traffic has cleared:

  • Park Avenue will be one-way westbound from Fox Hollow Road to North Atherton Street
  • Park Avenue will be one-way eastbound from Fox Hollow Road to Orchard Road
  • Porter Road will be one-way southbound from Beaver Stadium to East College Avenue

Motorists should expect delays during outbound traffic because traffic volume is expected to be equivalent to that of a Penn State home football game.
