The Penn State Public Service Internship Program with the State College Borough is a collaborative effort between the Center for Character, Conscience, and Public Purpose at Penn State and the State College Borough Community Engagement Office. The goals of this program are to provide students with a valuable learning experience through public service, enact programs that enhance the relationship between the neighborhoods around State College and the students who live there, and to deepen the collaboration that exists between the University and community. The community engagement intern(s) will work closely with the Community Engagement Director, Borough of State College departments, Off-Campus Student Union, the Inter-fraternity Council, the University Park Undergraduate Association, neighborhood association leadership, Student Affairs offices, and additional local groups and individuals to assist with the facilitation of local community-oriented activity, network to establish relationships with local government, and serve as a community-oriented (internship) team (COT) leader. As a COT leader, interns will identify and implement innovative and engaging strategies that increase civic engagement for students through a wide variety of programs. Two (2), 10 hour/week internship opportunities are available for Penn State students interested in learning more about the State College Borough and its surrounding neighborhoods as well as the relationship between the University and the Borough.
