Hillcrest Avenue Sewer Repair Slated for Sunday June 2
State College, PA–During a routine camera inspection conducted last week, Public Works crews discovered damaged and missing pipe in two sections of the main sewer along Hillcrest Avenue between Atherton and Taylor Streets. The line provides service for approximately 50 homes in West College Heights. Because the top portion of the pipe is missing, the Public Works Department has scheduled an emergency repair for Sunday, June 21, 2015. Should the soil above the line collapse prior to Sunday, an immediate repair will be necessitated.
The emergency work will require closing Hillcrest Avenue between Atherton and Taylor Streets. To minimize the impact to motorists needing access to and from West College Heights, work will begin at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 21. It is anticipated that work will be completed around noon on the same day.
During this time period, vehicular ingress to West College Heights will be from Ridge and Park Avenues, and from Arbor Way. Egress will be from Ridge Avenue and Arbor Way. Atherton Street will be restricted to one lane in each direction near Ridge Avenue and Arbor Way until Hillcrest Avenue is reopened to traffic. Flagmen and police will monitor the traffic at the Ridge Avenue/Atherton Street intersection, and direct traffic as needed.
No disruption in sewer and water service to homes in the area is anticipated.
The second repair on Hillcrest is scheduled for Monday, June 22; however, the street will be open to one lane of traffic for this repair. The pavement repair for the work completed on Sunday, June 21, will also be completed on Monday morning, after 9 a.m.
If traveling within this area, please allow additional time and plan your route accordingly. While the Borough regrets to complete this work on an early Sunday morning, the schedule for the work has been set to minimize the impact of the repair project on the need for access into and out of West College Heights.
