Maintenance & Construction of Public Sidewalks

Maintenance and construction of public sidewalks are the responsibility of the abutting property owner. Sidewalks must be kept in good repair. The Borough inspects sidewalks and will notify property owners if a repair is required.

    Lend a hand in keeping State College a walkable community. Borough ordinance requires property owners to maintain a clear and open sidewalk.

  • Snow Removal

    Borough Ordinances require sidewalks to be kept clear of snow, ice and debris.

  • Tree Lawn Planting

    Through a recent survey, we have identified over 100 gardens planted by residents within the public right of way ranging from small mailbox plantings to large vegetable gardens. We do not discourage these gardens but must ensure they are maintained properly to create a clean, safe, and aesthetically pleasing environment.
