  1. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Plaza Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

    August 28, 2017, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

    The Borough of State College will be holding an official ribbon cutting ceremony from 10 a.m. to Noon on August 28, 2017, for the opening of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Plaza, the 54th anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, where Dr. King first gave his historic “I Have a Dream” speech. The plaza is located on South Fraser Street, between West College Avenue and West Beaver Avenue. The ribbon cutting ceremony will celebrate the completion of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Plaza, a memorial to remind citizens of Dr. King's legacy as an advocate for peace, equality, and justice — a legacy that lives on in the State College community and around the world.

    Community Resource Fair + Block Party = LION (Living in One Neighborhood) Bash The 100 and 200 blocks of South Allen Street will be filled with over 50 engagement stations, food and entertainment on Tuesday, August 29! Attendees will have an opportunity to learn more about services and ordinances in place, which helps to maintain the quality of life and safety in our community, and possibly win some great prizes! Food at the event will be from establishments like Rita’s Italian Ice, ElGringo Taco Truck and Ye Olde College Diner, but attendees are also encouraged to visit one of the many great eateries in downtown State College and browse the fine shops. Featuring live entertainment by student performers from PSU, Miss Melanie and the Valley Rats, The Adorabulls and Velveeta! Join your friends and family at LION Bash to discover the various resources the State College community offers to improve your quality of life!
