Upcoming Travel Restrictions on University Drive Between East McCormick Avenue and East Waring Avenue
On Wednesday, May 13, West Penn Power will be occupying 919 University Drive between East McCormick Avenue and East Waring Avenue for a pole replacement. Work will take place between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. and will cause one travel lane and the side walk to be closed. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to use caution when traveling near work areas. On Wednesday, May 13, Stitzer Crane Service Inc. will occupy 125 South Atherton Street between College Avenue and Beaver Avenue for crane setup at the Graduate Hotel. Work will take place between 7 a.m. and noon and will close two to three lanes of South Atherton Street. The sidewalk at this location will also be closed. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to use caution when traveling near work areas. Questions about this project may go directly to Stitzer Crane Service Inc. by calling (814) 234-1597.

Save the Date: Juneteenth 2026 Celebration Weekend
This year marks the seventh year that Juneteenth will be celebrated in State College with the theme "Roots, Rhythm, and Resilience: Celebrating Our Legacy." The celebration weekend will take place on Friday, June 19, and Saturday, June 20. The weekend will start with a Juneteenth Arts and Crafts Exhibition at Woskob Family Gallery at 6 p.m., followed by a Block Party on the 100 Block of Fraser Street on Saturday, June 20, from noon to 6 p.m.

You're Invited to a Community Bike Ride 🚲
On Saturday, May 16, Sustainable State College and the Borough of State College Bicycle Ambassadors will host a 6.7-mile slow-paced family-friendly community bike ride.
Participants will gather at the Orchard Park Pavilion by the parking lot at 9:45 a.m. and the ride will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Participants will ride on designated shared-use paths, bike lanes, and bike routes in the Centre Region. All ages and abilities are welcome!

Take the World Migratory Bird Day Pledge 🐦
Sustainable State College and the State College Bird Town Committee invite you to take action for World Migratory Bird Day!
World Migratory Bird Day, observed on Saturday, May 9, is a global campaign to protect migratory birds and the habitats they depend on. This year’s theme, “Every Bird Counts — Your Observations Matter!”, highlights how community action and everyday choices can support migratory birds.
Take part by reducing non-essential lighting on World Migratory Bird Day to help protect birds on their spring migration through the night. Sign the pledge to reduce artificial and unnecessary lighting from 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. on World Migratory Bird Day.
Calder Way Improvement Project Phase 2 & 2A Community Update
This past week, the contractor for Phase 2, Terra Works, continued the installation of sanitary sewer lines from South Burrowes Street to Cresson Alley. Next week the installation of sanitary sewer lines will continue as well as the install of a storm structure and conduit. The current restrictions along South Burrowes Street will remain in place next week as work continues.
Phase 2A, the contractor, Glenn O. Hawbaker, will resume work on Wednesday, May 13. The contractor will have supplies delivered and begin work on stormwater upgrades and replacement. The Borough would like to remind those entering and exiting town, that Hetzel Street is closed from the intersection of East Calder Way to College Avenue, and East Calder Way to Wilson Alley.
