News & Announcements

The Borough of State College Calder Way improvement Project Phase 2 is set to begin Tuesday, January 20. Construction will take place on Calder Way from South Fraser Street to South Atherton Street.

Calder Way Improvement Project Phase 2 & 2A Community Update

Tentatively on Monday, June 8, TerraWorks will be paving on South Atherton Street and South Burrowes Street. The restriction along South Atherton will restrict two northbound lanes. The two southbound lanes will turn to one lane north and one south. South Burrowes Street will be restricted to one lane so paving can be completed. Flaggers and traffic-control signage will be in place during this time.

On Wednesday, June 10, prep work will be done for final paving from South Fraser Street to Miller Alley. Due to this, Calder Way from South Fraser Street to Miller Alley will be closed to vehicular traffic on Wednesday, June 10, and Thursday, June 11.

Phase 2A, the contractor (Glenn O. Hawbaker) began the installation of water main along Hetzel Street. This work will take place over the next few weeks.

Next week, as the contractor progresses along Hetzel Street, additional closures will be needed. Hetzel Street will be closed from Beaver Avenue to College Avenue. There will also be no access to Wilson Alley from Hetzel Street during this time.

The community can receive weekly updates by visiting the Calder Way Improvement Project page. Questions about the project may be directed to Tristan Klinefelter, the Borough’s Calder Way Public Relations Representative, by emailing tklinefelter@statecollegepa.us or calling (814) 680-4468.

Access to Cresson Alley and New Alley will be from Burrowes Street, and flaggers will be in place to assist. Burrowes Street will remain open during this period. Access to the Beaver Avenue Parking Garage will remain open.

Motorists and pedestrians are advised to use caution when traveling near work areas. Questions about this project may be directed to the Borough's Public Works department by calling 814-234-7100.
