Permits

The Planning Department is responsible for the review and issuance of multiple permits and licenses.

Zoning and Building

A Zoning Permit is required prior to the erection, alteration, demolition, or construction of any structure requiring a building permit, as well as any change of use. 

Certain alterations to properties within the Borough’s historic districts may require additional review by the Historical and Architectural Review Board.

Building Permits are handled by Centre Region Code Administration (CRCA). Please visit their website for information regarding Building Permits.

Signage

A Sign Permit is required for the installation of a new or changes to an existing sign. This includes signage on awnings, canopies, and marquees. A Zoning Permit is also required as part of the application package.

Rental Housing

A Rental Housing Permit is required for all rental activity. Some rental activity requires multiple permits and licenses.

• Rental Housing Permit: This is the general Rental Housing Permit required for all rental activity. This permit is reviewed for zoning compliance by the Borough but is ultimately issued and maintained by Centre Region Code Administration.
• Short-Term Rental License: This license is required for rental stays of less than 30 days.
• Student Home License: This license is required for occupancy of more than one unrelated student within a one-family, one-family with an accessory apartment, or two-family dwelling. Not all properties are eligible for this license.
