Bicycle Friendly Business 

The Borough of State College is a Gold-designated Bicycle Friendly Business. This recognition program, initiated by the League of American Bicyclists, recognizes employers' efforts to encourage a more bicycle-friendly atmosphere for its employees and customers. 

The Centre Region consists of the State College Borough, Patton Township, Half-Moon Township, Ferguson Township, Harris Township, and College Township. Through a region-wide effort between the Centre Region Council of Governments and participating municipalities, the Centre Region received Silver status for the Bicycle Friendly Community recognition program.   • Is easily accessible by bike
  • Is a champion for bicycling in their community
  • Offers convenient, secure bike parking
  • Provides end-of-trip facilities for bicyclists
  • Offers incentives to bicycle commuters
  • Provides access to shared bicycles
  • Fosters a positive internal bike culture
  • Celebrates Bike to Work Day and Bike Month
  • Supports local, state, and national bike advocacy
  • Offers classes on bicycle safety and maintenance
  • Shares bicycling information and resources with employees and guests
  • Tracks data related to bicycling
  • Has dedicated staff focused on bicycle-friendly improvements
  • Sets measurable goals to increase bicycling rates

Employee Bike Fleet Program

The State College Borough is a sustainable community. In efforts to increase employee wellness, reduce traffic, and limit vehicle emissions, the Borough implemented an employee Bike Fleet program in 2015. As of today, four bikes are available for employees to use during the work day to travel:

  • To meetings or inspections
  • Back and forth between the administration and the service buildings
  • Between parking garages
  • To and from campus
  • On errands
  • For exercise during lunch

  • Bicycle Friendly Business Application Portal. The Borough of State College will assist up to five businesses per year with Bicycle Friendly Business certification application fees. The Borough will only help businesses that meet the following criteria:
    • Are within State College Borough boundaries 
    • Either have less than 49 employees or are classified as a nonprofit
